Rocketfuel is finally on the way to UWA.
Tomorrow the Guild President Matthew Mckenzie, and Managing
Director Wayne Howells will be sitting down with Rocketfuel to
draft the terms for their lease of the Refresh Bar in the
Refectory.
This comes after the resolution passed at the most recent
Guild Council meeting approving negotiations for a trial of
independent catering on campus.
“This is an important improvement for students on campus
and we’ll be working to ensure it happens as quickly as
possible” said Matthew.
“I think there’s a lot more work to be done but
this is a giant leap in improving a basic service for
students”.
The plan endorsed by Guild Council will allow for the
negotiation of the terms in time for the Council to approve an
agreement later this month. This will then leave one final step
– approval from the University.
Matthew was confident that this would be achieved: “I
think the University are understanding of what we’re trying
to do, and they seem very supportive. It will be done in a way
that we’ll be earning more revenue, and it will be more
stable revenue, so this will have a positive impact on student
services.”
There are also plans to include in the contract a provision to
employ students. Currently only a handful of Guild Catering staff
are students, so this will bring significant benefits to those
people on campus looking for work they can do between
classes.
The final draft of the contract is expected to be prepared
next week.
