Insurance

Club Rooms

The Guild have a general contents insurance for the buildings and contents, but the excess is $2000 plus. That is, if a club claims for anything less than $2000 they will receive no insurance. If you have valuable items kept in your clubroom it is highly recommended that you take out some from of extra cover. Contents insurance is relatively cheap and you may be able to link in with another club (eg: $200 for $10 000 cover between 3 clubs).

Public Liability

The University has Student Plan Personal Accident Insurance and Public Liability Insurance. Student Plan Personal Accident Insurance means that all currently enrolled UWA students are covered whilst engaging in campus activities.

The University also has Public Liability Insurance which covers its legal liability for negligence resulting in bodily injury to other persons or destruction of property arising out of the university business. The insurance covers all related companies and organisations of the University, but when having a show, either on or off campus, go to http://rm.uwa.edu.au/insurance and find out exactly what you are covered for.

Technically, both the Guild and the University have Public Liability, but they will not claim responsibility unless you have fully informed them of all details of your event. Here is a list of the extent of Public Liability when Guild Activities puts on a touring act.

  • University + Guild
  • Promoter (on behalf of the band)
  • Fencing Co.
  • Production Co. (ie PA)
  • Lighting
  • Staging
  • Security

Public Liability is best provided with a Certificate of Currency. if you only remember one thing from this page, it's Certificate or currency. Write it down.

All insurance details have to be forwarded to the university before approval for the event is given. This is because anything can happen, and one will not cover the other ie. the fencing could fall, the stage could collapse, etc. This is just to show you how full on public liability should be for events to the general public.

Never approach the Council directly. Read up about events management and direct your plans and queries through Jonathon Zahra, the Activities Officer.
