| Incorporation is an issue that most clubs and societies should take
into consideration. At present, most clubs and societies are
unincorporated. Without going into specifics, if a club is not
incorporated then its members, and in particular its committee, are
legally liable for any debts, as well as injuries incurred at club
shows, copy write, liquor licensing, etc. This means legal action may
be taken against individuals within the club. Therefore, the Guild
strongly encourages clubs and societies to discuss this issue and
approach the SOC Council about pros and cons of incorporating. The
application for incorporation makes quite clear the changes required
to your club's constitution and all obligations regarding minutes,
General Meetings and official seals. The cost is about $75 to
incorporate and register a name, and about $120 to advertise the
incorporation in the newspaper which is a requirement of
incorporation. |
