Posters on Campus
Policy
All clubs need to have a copy of the poster policy, as it clearly outlines
what you can and can't have on your posters. This saves everyone time, as
you will be much more likely to submit posters that meet the approval
standard. The main criteria that will reject your poster submissions is the
display of anything sexist, racist, defamatory, homophobic or anything that
is clearly at odds with liquor licensing or the law.
Guild Poster & Publications Policy (PDF).
| Poster Locations
Posters can only be put up in certain locations on campus. PLEASE READ THIS INFORMATION CAREFULLY.
Please make sure everyone on your committee understands these rules,
otherwise your time, effort and money could be ripped down in minutes. It's
also your club's responsibility to remove any poster within a week of the
advertised event happening. If this does not occur, your club will be
charged the cost of the posters' removal.
Locations for Approved Materials
- On pillars within the Guild Village, Guild Refectory and Guild Refectory Courtyard
- On the noticeboards outside the Guild toilets and the Tavern
Locations not permitted for postering
- On walls surrounding the Guild Refectory
- On walls in Guild Village
- On any window
- Inside the Guild toilets or other building
- Anywhere on the ground around the Guild Village
- Anywhere else on campus
| Process for Putting Up Posters
BEFORE PRINTING YOUR POSTERS, please read the following:
- Design your poster! For some cool tips, see our section on producing
club material. If you are an affiliated club, make sure your design clearly shows the Guild Logo somewhere
on your poster.
- Print off two copies (two copies of each different poster you designed).
Then you'll need to get your poster authorised by one of the following people:
- Guild President (ph 6488 2294)
- Activities Officer (ph 6488 2291)
- Memberships Officer (ph 6488 2211)
- Student Centre Manager (ph 6488 2295)
- Societies Council President (ph 6488 3773)
They'll sign the back of one of your copies (for each design -- provided
you've met the requirements of the poster policy) and you're almost there!!
- Go down to the Guild Student Centre in the Guild courtyard. They'll
need to keep the signed (authorised) copy of your poster for records, and
you can stamp your other copy with the 'approved' stamp. THIS IS REALLY
IMPORTANT - if you don't stamp your posters, they will be torn down.
- Then you're good to go! Copy as many posters as you want (making sure
you can see the guild logo and the approved stamp on the poster), and drop
them outside the Activities Officer's door (on the first floor of the Guild) by
4pm Thursday, on the week before they need to be up. Posters go up during normal UWA teaching weeks.
Please STAMP then photoCOPY your posters - it's a much more efficient method to
stamp one poster then copy them, rather than having to stamp your bundle of posters
- not to mention in the instance you are forced to change a part of your poster and re-print
them.
We also have information about how to print your posters. | Faculty Noticeboards
Contact faculties directly regarding internal noticeboards.
| Notice Boards off Crawley Campus
The Guild has notice boards at QEII, Nedlands and Dentistry campuses. If
you would like to publicise your club's activities at these locations, drop your
material at the Student centre, and they can be internally mailed to the
relevant Faculty Societies committees. Alternatively, if you're prepared for a
bit of a trek, you can put the posters there yourself!
| Penalties
The University is quite strict on maintaining aesthetically pleasing buildings, which means they do not want posters spammed all over them. The penalty for placing posters on unauthorised buildings is up to $100 per incident. Part 9-Penalties and Proceedings - http://calendar.publishing.uwa.edu.au/latest/partb/bylaws/part9 9.1 A person who breaches any of these by-laws is liable
on conviction to a fine not exceeding $100.
Definition of unauthorised area: The University of Western Australia Lands By-Laws, Part
5-Conduct of Persons on the Lands http://calendar.publishing.uwa.edu.au/latest/partb/bylaws/part5 5.5 No person shall post, stick, stencil, paint or otherwise affix any
matter to or on any part of the Lands or any building, erection, fence, wall,
pathway, traffic area, tree, shrub or hedge; on the Lands unless that person is the holder of and
then only in accordance with a Permit authorising such act except that
with the permission of the relevant authority notices may be attached to
noticeboards. For the purposes of this by-law the
relevant authority means the administration, Guild of Undergraduates,
faculty or department as the case may be which has the care of that
noticeboard and permission means permission given in the manner
determined by the relevant authority. |
