The UWA culture is a unique
environment. When we start out
here all of us probably think
that going to Uni is all lectures
and tutorials; however, you will
soon find out that this isn't
the case! If you limit yourself
to just going to class, you are
missing half the experience. It
is here that you will find the
true UWA culture. Our tradition
is one of societies, clubs, events and the Oak Lawn. You will
be amazed how late you stayed up the previous night only
to appear miraculously at an 8am lecture. You will have the
time of your life at O-day and, if you survive O-Camp, you
will have the best start to the year. We are social beings
and it is for this reason we have a Societies Council (sounds
simple enough).
SOC (vastly different to the four letter word that belongs on
your foot) prides itself on supporting all our clubs big and
small. This side of the Guild is able to approve new clubs
and provide support to the existing. We cater for all different
kinds of clubs – from language clubs to cultural clubs, social clubs to political clubs. We are able to provide banking
facilities, grants, free advertising on campus, Responsible
Service of Alcohol (RSA) courses, a resource room and more! Use
your imagination: if you can think of it, chances are we do it!
SOC council meets on eight occasions with each club sending a
representative to ensure everyone is up with the schedule.
We run events during each semester that include milk skulls,
shaving cream and ridiculous amounts of fun so keep your ears
out for Club Olympics and Club Carnival. If the 90+ existing
clubs aren't your cup of Aussie Breakfast Tea don't hesitate
to get in contact with me to find out more. I definitely look
forward to seeing you at the next Uni Show and don't forget
to make this the best time of your life. Turn U-dub into a
place you will never forget - no matter how hard you try!
