The Guild Education Officers provide information, support and advocacy with a range of academic matters.
The University has many policies, rules and procedures. In these, there are also a number of rights for you to appeal against decisions made. The most common appeal types have now been put into one policy document and can be found at: http://www.secretariat.uwa.edu.au/home/policies/appeals and in all University handbooks. You can appeal against:
- Academic assessment - where you are not happy with the marking of any component of a unit and the final grade received for a unit - more info..
- The award of a progress status - where you have received notification that you are on probation or have been sanctioned (asked to repeat a year or excuded from study for a period of time) - more info..
- The result of an application for special consideration in relation to an individual student - where you have made a request for special considerations such as an extension on a due date, a deferred examination, consideration in marking, or a late withdrawal from the unit and where you are not happy with the outcome of your application - more info..
- The application of scaling or other adjustment systems - where you know that - more info..
- Appeals against non-adherence to the assessment mechanism statement for the unit - where you become aware that what is set out in the unit outline regarding assessment is being changed or is not being applied in accordance with what stated will be done - more info..
- Other university decisions not covered by the central appeal policy - more info..
If you would like to talk about your appeal or would like assistance with it, then you should make contact with an Education Officer (contact details below). The Officer will be able to provide you with advice about how to appeal, can assist with letter writing, attend meetings with University staff with you or on your behalf and can advise about all the steps in the appeal process.
