Pelican is the independent student publication of the University of western Australia. 20,000 copies are published each year and are regularly distributed across inner-suburban Perth as well as Notre Dame, Murdoch, Curtin, ECU and Central TAFE. Eight editions are published per year coinciding with each month of semester. Pelican is Australia’s second oldest student paper and is celebrating 81 years of publication in 2010. Easily distinguishable by our square tabloid format and professional design, Pelican has a readership of around 10,000 per edition and is aimed at Perth’s tertiary students and young people aged 17-27 living and working in the inner-metropolitan area. Each edition is centred on a theme and includes regular reviews (books, music, television, film and arts), opinion pieces, events listings, feature articles and current affairs analysis. Pelican aims to provide a high-quality forum for students as well as aspiring journalists, commentators, authors, critics and artists in the community. Pelican offers a unique opportunity for young West Australians to access the media and express themselves in print.
