The Queer Department is committed to providing a safe space for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Transgender, Intersex, questioning and Queer Students at UWA. We have two Queer Officers who are here to represent you and your concerns on Guild Council and other Guild and University Committees.
The Queer Department aims to raise awareness of Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia. We work with the Student Guild and University to do everything we can to make UWA a safe and welcoming place for LGBTIQ people.
The Queer Department runs a number of events through the year including BBQs, Movie Nights, very popular L Word Marathons, Pillowtalk (our new after hours hang out/discussion sessions), Pub Crawls, Queer Camp in August , A Genderf*ck Ball, Pride Week in September and much more! We are also a part of the Cross-Campus Queer Network (CCQN) which encompasses Queer Departments from all Universities in WA and together we organise social & political events.
It can be scary if you haven’t told anyone yet, or if you are not sure you are same-sex attracted or trans, but we are here to help you if you are struggling. It’s tough to walk into the Queer room for the first time, but being brave and proud of who you are is worth the risk. Once you take that step things start getting better. You meet friends, realise you are not alone, and things aren’t so scary after all. For those who are out and proud come along and get involved in our campaigns. All are welcome. Don’t hesitate to email us if you have any questions.
