Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islands Students

The University and the Student Guild recognises that there are Australian Indigenous Students present here on campus and acknowledges that they are an integral part of the community. The Guild also acknowledges that it is situated on Noongar land. Noongar people remain the spiritual and cultural custodians of their land and continue to practice their values, languages, beliefs and knowledge.

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students' Department (ATSISD) was established to improve reception for Indigenous students on campus and to ensure their unique, collective and individual needs are met. In the first semester of each year an Indigenous representative is elected by the Indigenous students, this election is run in conjunction with the WASAC Director's election, to sit on Guild Council.

The ATSIS Department is based at Shenton House (next to the Tavern), and works closely with the School of Indigenous Studies (SIS), and WASAC, to promote cultural awareness and reconciliation between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous students and staff on campus. Each year the ATSIS Department, along with WASAC, actively participates in Reconciliation Week, Social Justice Week, Multicultural Week, as well as many more events through out the University year designed to promote cultural awareness and reconciliation.
