Theme Weeks

The Guild runs a diverse range of Theme Weeks throughout the year. These are organised by Subsidiary Councils and Guild Departments with help from the Public Affairs Council. Keep an eye out in Pelican and G-News for up-to-date information. We’ve listed some of the main Theme Weeks below, but you will see lots of others pop up throughout the year.

First Semester Theme Weeks


FRINGE FEST - Week 7 (6-10 April)

Organised by the Public Affairs Councils (PAC), Fringe Fest is an arts festival with a focus on fun, where anything goes and craziness engulfs the campus.

RECONCILIATION WEEK

Organised by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student Department, this week is about showing a proactive reconciliation between all people in Australia.

STRESS LESS WEEK - Week 12 (18-22 May)

As first-semester exams approach, Stress Less Week (run by the Welfare Department) helps you fit some relaxation into your busy schedule. Take a break from study and enjoy a range of activities throughout the week that will help you focus, relax and take the stress out of exams!

Second Semester Theme Weeks

EDUCATION WEEK - Week 2 (27-31 July)

Organised by the Education Council, Ed Week focuses on making students aware of education issues such as illegal fees and upfront University fees.

ENVIRONMENT WEEK - Week 3 (3-7 August)
Organised by the Environment Department, this is a week aimed towards raising student awareness of various environmental issues both on and off campus.

SOCIAL JUSTICE WEEK - Week 7 (31 August - 4 September)

The Public Affairs Council’s main Theme Week of the year is SJW, which focuses on making students aware of social justice issues both in Australia and overseas. The Social Justice Handbook (written and edited by students) is also distributed this week.

MULTICULTURAL WEEK - Week 11 (5-9 October)
Organised by the International Students' Service (ISS) and the Aboriginal Torres Strait Island Student Department (ATSIS), MCW highlights the diverse cultural representation on campus. The week culminates in the much anticipated 'Spring Feast' in Guild Village.

PRIDE WEEK - Week 11 (5-9 October)
Pride week is organised by the Queer Department and focuses on celebrating alternative sexualities and fighting against homophobia and discrimination.
