Who played at the O-Day Festival 2009?The O-Day Festival is the hottest free live music festival in WA - and we're not just talking about the temperature. Here are the acts that will be gracing us with their presence and bringing the noise at the O-Day Festival concert in 2009! We're stoked to announce that headlining the show will be Aria-nominated duo Jackson Jackson (featuring Harry Angus, the lead singer from The Cat Empire)! After their recent run of sold-out shows across Australia, Jackson Jackson will be bringing their unique brand of hip-hop/afrobeat/psychobilly fusion to the O-Day Festival, alongside a three-piece rhythm section and mini-choir known as the 'Jackson Jackson Five'. Described as "menacing psychedelic electro-folk at its best", Jackson Jackson's first album (The Fire Is On The Bird) won them an Aria nomination, while their second (Tools For Survival) is already earning critical acclaim. And if you were a kid during the 90s, you're in for a massively nostalgic treat... in the form of a toffee apple (very sticky, don't forget to clean your teeth!) That's right, the inimitable Peter Combe is coming to UWA! Combe toured Australia in 2007, performing to packed crowds of teens and twentysomethings who remember his catchy songs from the good old days (including sold-out shows at Amplifier and the Fly By Night). And now he's back, performing live with backup from the Juicy Juicy Green Band! So grab your newspaper hat and get your fix of old school ABC Kids with classic songs like Newspaper Mama, Wash Your Face in Orange Juice, Chopsticks and Toffee Apple. Want to brush up on your lyrics? Head on over to myspace.com/petercombe to refresh your memory. Plus, we've got the top two UWA bands from the 2008 National Campus Band Comp (NCBC): John and the Inverarities (myspace.com/johnandtheinverarities) and Radio Empire (myspace.com/radioempirespace). These guys beat dozens of uni bands to make it to the State Finals, grabbing critical acclaim and fans along the way, and now return to home turf for the O-Day Festival. And if that wasn't already enough, we've also got some of Perth's hottest local DJs to kick off the day with style. Get ready to see off summer with a bang at the O-Day Festival 2009!
